What we are aiming at
We want everybody to be able to use Shopmorphic, whatever they are using to read it. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 at level AA across this site, the sellers' portal and the shops we host.
What we have done
Pages are built on the server as ordinary HTML, so they work with a screen reader, with the keyboard alone, and with JavaScript turned off wherever that is possible. Every control can be reached and used by keyboard, and the focus outline is always visible. Text and background colours are checked against the AA contrast rules, and no meaning is carried by colour on its own. Text can be enlarged to 200% without anything being cut off, and the layout reflows down to a narrow phone. Images that carry meaning have a description; decorative ones are hidden from screen readers. Forms have real labels, errors are described in words next to the field, and nothing important is announced only by a pop-up.
Where it falls short
The check we send a form through, the spinning ring, is a moving target: it is aimed with a mouse or a finger. Anybody using a keyboard can hold the space bar instead, and anybody who misses it still gets through - the message simply waits behind a link sent to their email. Nobody is turned away.
A shop's own pages are styled by its seller. We give every shop an accessible starting theme and a written guide, but a seller who changes colours or type can undo that, and we do not control it.
We have not had this site audited by anyone outside Lightmorphic. We check it ourselves against the AA rules on every release.
Tell us
